INGREDIENTS
1 teaspoon granulated sugar
1 tablespoon yeast
1 and 1/2 cups warm water
1 tablespoon olive oil
1 tablespoon honey
1 teaspoon salt
3 and whole wheat flour
extra honey for drizzle
Instructions
In a stand mixer, fitted with a hook attachment, combine the sugar, yeast, and warm water. Stir and let it sit for 5 minutes or until the yeast has dissolved.
Add olive oil, honey, and salt. Mix with the dough hook on low speed for 30 seconds. Add 3 cups of whole wheat flour and mix with the dough hook on low speed
Once mixed, knead for 5 minutes with your hook on low-medium. Poke the dough with your finger – if it bounces back, your dough is ready to rise. If not, keep kneading slowly.
Roll the dough into a ball and place in a large mixing bowl that has been coated lightly with olive oil. Cover tightly with plastic wrap and allow to rise.
Your dough will have doubled in size in about 1 – 2 hours.
Once it has doubled in size, cut the dough into two.
Roll each half into a ball and let rest in two separate bowls lightly covered with plastic wrap for at least another 20 minutes.
Preheat oven to 475°F. Grease and dust 2 baking sheets with olive oil & flour.
After 20 minutes, flatten each ball of dough 1 at a time on a lightly floured surface. Flatten and stretch the dough into a 12-inch round circle (I use a rolling pin).
Lift the edge of the dough up to create a thick crust around the edges. Pinch the edges up to create the crust.
Transfer dough to a baking sheet, or pizza stone.
Add sauce, cheese & any toppings you desire!
Drizzle honey on the crust before popping it in the oven! (You'll thank me later)
Bake for 30 minutes or until the crust is lightly browned.
